Job Hunting

by Red Rose ~ February 1st, 2005

Well, after more than a month’s absence, a belated Happy New Year to you all. It hasn’t started out quite that way for me, much-explaining the time elapsed since my last post, and as most of you know, I was openly questioning whether this enterprise was even worth it anymore. Only about a dozen readers heeded my call for expressions of their support, but as I have always been one to expound upon “quality over quantity” and the first to advise others not to get sucked into popularity contests, three of these messages particularly persuaded me to leave everything as-is and, eventually, begin making use of this space again.

Much to do with my underlying mood is the fact that the menial job I held at the end of last year didn’t survive the turn: the decision was made not to convert my seasonal status to full-time. After having had my hopes built up and then dashed regarding a computer-related position, I am still job-hunting, my absolutely least-favorite thing to do. I may even have to go right back to the retail grind for now, however much I’d care not to. And that’s all I want to say about that….

There have been things in the news, here and there, that I felt worthy of comment, but I just didn’t feel like the effort to do so was worth it. Perhaps in the days and weeks to come, I’ll go back and revisit some of those, like an Anna Quindlen column around Christmastime that absolutely made me livid, a couple of essays by Dr. Thomas Droleskey in these recent weeks, the meaning of Bush’s recent 2nd inaugural speech, and some news stories here and there. The current pace of news, such that I would care about (that would exclude things like the Iraq elections, since I don’t waste time celebrating the “march of democracy” or other such neo-con nonsense), is still slow enough that I suspect I can go back this last month or two and not lose track of the present.

So, whether you folks like it or not, I’m not dead yet.
