Election reflections

by Red Rose ~ November 1st, 2004

What follows are a few loosely-connected thoughts in epilogue to my election considerations posted last Oct. 19th….

* * *

Forget about unemployment problems, or Social Security, or taxes. Never mind the atrocious network of propaganda mills posing as “educational institutions,” or the ticking time-bomb that is the U.S. health-care system. Don’t even sweat the progress of the U.S. military operations in the Middle East, or even the prospect of further Islamoterrorism at home.

All these things are secondary, really, to matters like the continued atrocity of “legal” abortion and the prospect of the similar “legalization” by judicial fiat of sodomite pretenses to marriage. No doubt that abortion is “the ultimate child abuse,” the most egregious violation of defenseless and innocent (in worldly terms) human life. No doubt, also, that giving legal recognition to sodomite unions as “marriages,” through its consequent obliteration of all natural distinctions, will result in the destruction of the institution of the family. (Not to mention the opening of unspeakable new avenues of child abuse and exploitation. Let’s not forget that something like only one in 10 of the Catholic Church’s known priest sex-abuse scandals involved female victims!)

However, there is a problem with most of those who tried to defend innocence and decency in this election campaign by emphasizing one or both of these two particular issues — and the problem is that these issues were being addressed in isolation, as individual items in and of themselves, defended mainly on grounds appealing to natural reason, divorced from the full context of the one real issue of which both these agenda items are really nothing more than symptomatic manifestations. And this single defining issue of the campaign? It’s unfortunately the same single issue that has been the basis of every single election campaign, at both Federal and state levels, for the last couple of generations: a referendum on the continuing viability of a Christian character to our civilization.

Yet, all prior elections are prologue. Up to now, and regardless of who was President, all the significant cultural victories of the last 40+ years have been won by the neo-Communist anti-Christian interest groups, allied together in the common cause of their shared hatred under the banner “political correctness” (P.C.), not a single one of which has been successfully reversed by those attempting to defend Christian common sense in our society. These anti-Christian forces have by now largely succeeded in refashioning our civilization from a generically yet recognizably Christian basis to the point where Christianity has already been delegitimized as this society’s principal influence and is being relentlessly driven to total extinction in that regard. [Being this is November, I need only cite the renaming of the Thanksgiving-Christmas-New Year's period to the "holiday season" (with all this implies) as one significant example.]

Against that backdrop we face essentially the same sort of Presidential candidate selection we did four years ago, but events of these intervening years, together with certain uniquely unsavory aspects to the present principal challenger, raise the stakes to the point where many people sense this being the election that is decisive to the course of our civilization in this generation. They are not far off the mark in sensing this.

We face, as I said in the earlier post, a Hobson’s choice. We have on the one hand an incumbent President who talks in Bible-thumping fashion about some sort of Christian faith, who wages overseas wars more readily than he fights for what is right at home, particularly against intractable political enemies who, together with their media allies and the formidable forces of the institutions under the tight control of the anti-Christian leftists, are determined to leverage every event and every issue to bludgeon him to political ruin. The Left has universally invested itself in a visceral and personal hatred of Bush the man, in exactly the same way that Big Brother’s regime utilized the “Two Minutes Hate” against “the enemy of the people” Emmanuel Goldstein in George Orwell’s novel 1984. [Follow the link to a blogger's fine analysis of this phenomenon, in which the Orwell text describing the Two Minutes Hate is interwoven with multiple links to prove my very point.]

And yet the irony of this personal hatred? The Left could hardly have picked a less worthy target for it! The present Administration has had a consistent record of avoiding confrontation with the partisans of the anti-Christian agenda in every conceivable domestic arena: everything from co-opting the big-government impulses of the milquetoast Rockefeller Republicans, to not fighting for filibustered judicial nominees (and it’s not like any of these were a Bork, Scalia, or Thomas to begin with!), to caving on illegal immigration and border-protection issues, to losing courage even to go through some mild form of Title IX reform…. The fact that the Bush Administration has zero-tolerance for tough questions from conservatives is played out every week in WorldNetDaily transcripts of Les Kinsolving’s questions for the White House press secretaries. Bush still professes a basic belief in the legitimacy of the anti-Christian United Nations. How many of Clinton’s more questionable Executive Orders has Bush rescinded? And why has there been no impulse to repeal the legislated protection racket for the abortion profiteers fraudulently named the “Freedom of Clinic Access Act”?

In short, all we got these last four years with President Bush was someone who held the status quo, more or less: not doing much to further erode the socio-cultural fabric, yet lifting not one finger to try to really undo the damage that P.C. neo-Communism has already done to this culture and society — in essence, a four-year stay of execution. Bush’s focus on Islamoterrorism, frankly, is overprioritized: the domestic Leftist enemy is the far greater menace, and moreover, to whatsoever extent Islamoterrorism is indeed a genuine threat to the U.S. mainland, this is only so because of the cultural degradation (and disrespect for common sense in the judiciary and official policy) induced by the agitations of the Left.

A Bush victory will mean, in essence, another four-year stay-of-execution for Christian culture in America — but without any guarantee of its staying power. When these corrupt courts keep adding to the impositions of anti-Christian policies they foist upon the American people, will Bush be man enough to take the example of the one thing Andrew Jackson got right all those years ago: a simple and determined refusal to enforce such illegitimate court orders? Will Bush take note of all the phoney-baloney stories planted by the mass media in this election campaign and take measures to revoke the White House credentials of those organizations responsible for such blatant propagandry, forged documents and all, masquerading as “news reporting”? And for just how many more counterproductive foreign wars are our troops going to be pressed into service?

Yet, consider the alternative, and you will see why tomorrow could well be the day that the American republic determines its destiny and seals its fate. While “Algore” was repugnant and ungracious enough, the present nominee of the evil Democratic Party goes well beyond this. This nominee is a man of demonstrable dishonor in the U.S. military, a coward on the battlefield and a willing collaborationist with the Communist enemy in Vietnam (and therefore a traitor under the U.S. Constitution); a shameless self-aggrandizer in his two marriages-for-wealth; a panderer at least the equal of Bill Clinton (however without any of the charm); an inveterate liar and spinmeister; a willing mouthpiece for every despicable leftist and anti-Christian constituency and cause, even receiving the all-but-explicit endorsement of the Communist Party! And let’s not forget his willing army of lawyer thugs….

And, on top of all of this, Sen. “Hanoi” John F’ing “Heinz” Kerry represents the imposture of post-Vatican II American so-called “Catholicism” in all of its fetid ugliness: the woman the world now calls his wife really isn’t so in the eyes of God (it’s merely a civil marriage, not a sacramental one), and yet despite that, not to mention his perfect promotion of the abortion profiteers’ agenda, he dares receive Holy Communion! This man is a walking sacrilege, a breathing offense to our Savior and sovereign Lord — and a perfect symbol, all in himself, of what is wrong with the institutional Catholic Church in this country. And on that account most especially, he represents an evil dimension that not even Hillary Clinton exhibits! (Though, don’t assume she’s out of the picture should he win or “win.” Far from it….)

Do not doubt what this man will do: anything and everything imaginable to destroy whatever still remains of the Christian character of our society, starting with the nomination of the most odious, corrupt lawyers for the Federal judiciary and the U.S. Supreme Court. Not so much out of personal conviction, of course: this man is every much the gigolo in politics that he is in marriage. He will consummate the complete extripation of Christ in our land because that is what his rabid constituency will demand of him, especially through the mechanism of Executive Orders and the Federal bureaucracy. And one more thing: remember Waco 1993? There will be more where that came from once again.

A victory, whether under the rules or not, by the sacrilegious Kerry will force us to acknowledge that we soon will have to decide between two drastic alternatives: fight or flee. Simply “existing” as part of contemporary society, as many of us (myself included) have done up till now, will soon become impossible in this instance….

* * *

I’ve said before that the surest sign this country is in deep, deep trouble is the very fact that a man like Kerry, with all that one can find out about him thanks to the alternative media, is nonetheless not only a contender in this race but has a real chance to either win or steal this election! That so many people would, for whatever reason, vote for Sen. Sacrilege is prima facie proof of the brain-deadness and soul-deadness [and have no doubt: the two go together!] of half of the American populace, at once induced by, and then reinforcing of, the work of the anti-Christian Left.

In that context, it is interesting to note that the syndicated talk-radio commentator Glenn Beck pointed out another reason to reflect on our cultural decline this morning: the fact that most Americans are indifferent and unmoved by the taunting message of Osama bin Laden, the man chiefly responsible for the murders of 9-11-01, including his duplication of the propaganda of the anti-Bush hatemongers and a direct threat to those U.S. states carried by Bush, is in and of itself distressingly reflective of a country on the “wrong track.”

Moreover, Beck did well to point out that if anyone is stupid enough to be “undecided” this late in the campaign, then fall back on the common-sense adage: you know a man by the company he keeps; “show me your friends, and I’ll show you who you are.” And I think you all know by now the kind of folks endorsing Kerry: Communist dictators, anti-Christian Euroweenie socialists, the moral dregs of Hollywood glitterati, the American Communist Party, the execrable George Soros, the abortion profiteers, the modernist “Catholic” clergy and punditry … need I go on???

* * *

Here is one particularly compelling piece of evidence of the brazenness of the modernist Left within the institutional Catholic Church in this country, a direct dare to the bishops to do something to remedy the egregious scandal that this particular piece of inveterate vermin represents. Just read it for yourself. Let’s just say that it is long past time for the restoration of the Inqusition in its full vigor!

I can’t recall just now who put this idea in my head, but consider that this Ms. Hayes is a constituent of just that bogus “Catholicism” that would gain a new level of prestige and “legitmacy” should the sacrilegious Kerry win tomorrow. With him as the symbolic personification of this religious fraud, this could in a very real sense give a definitive character to the institutional Church in this country as infested beyond all redemption….

And, lest you think our knights-in-shining-armor from Rome will come to save us, then consider the release, with Vatican approval, of an apparently crass book about human sexuality by two Italian writers (one male, one female) that is said to be dismissive of the relevance of Original Sin to the topic and, says the Telegraph (U.K.), “in both style and content, the guide — published earlier this month — marks a radical break with traditional Church pronouncements on physical intimacy.”

O.K., so maybe I shouldn’t be too quick to accept the word of a British newspaper on the book’s character. But I do wonder this much: how much does the present Pope’s “theology of the body” influence the work?

Whatever you do, don’t let fake Catholicism triumph at the polls tomorrow. And offer your prayers and works for us all. Kyrie eleison.
