Driving Lessons!

This is yesterday’s effort but Blogger didn’t like me then so you can have it today instead…

Those of you who have read my stuff before will know I have a talent (read curse) for attracting odd people when I am standing in queues (particularly when waiting for buses). Well today I don’t have a story about my fellow passengers. In fact I think for about the first time ever I felt something which bordered on friendship with the majority of the bus (not including smelly drunk people) as we held on for our lives and survived to tell the tale.

Clearly our driver had never had a lesson in his life and was obviously quite proud of the fact as he turned the 20 minutes journey into a ride which would not have been out of place at Disneyland. The corners on almost two wheels are sort of par for the course now but the emergency stop from 30mph was something of a shock. I thought at first he had swerved to miss something but (once everyone had stopped screaming) he said something about the automatic gears just switching down and how the bus hadn’t been checked in a while. He sat and rubbed his back for five minutes – moaning in pain every so often – but not even attempting to ask if the boys who were standing at the front and nearly flew through the windscreen were okay.

We move off and then he starts laughing hysterically to himself (did he hurt his back or hit his head we were wondering). There were several mutterings of “he forgot to take his pills today” and we all smiled at each other in a conspiratal way but then many of my comrades decided to get off at the next stop and walk rather than risk the rest. I’m too lazy so stayed on but I noticed as everyone got off they each said “Thank you” to the driver. Yeah thanks for nearly killing us before 9.30am more like it.
